I proved girls can DIY too when I made a sun deck in our yard

A CRAFTY woman has taken matters into her own hands, proving girls can crush manual labor too.

She built a privacy fence and decked pergola all on her own.

Ashley Rack (@east_shore_home) has created a business out of her passion for DIY projects, garden care, and home interior makeovers.

She uses her TikTok to share her work and inspire others in their home transformation journeys.

In one video, she said she didn’t need a man to do the heavy lifting and build out an idyllic backyard sun deck.

“POV: ‘Girls can’t DIY.’ Me: ‘Watch Me,’” she began.

“Watch how I transformed this corner of our garden into a sun deck. I built a pergola and privacy screens from scratch.”

In the before image, the corner looked dull and worn out, with a rotting wood fence and no furniture to lounge on.

Ashley then shared videos of the hard work she put in as the space little by little came together.

She sawed panels of wood, painted them brown, and screwed them together piece by piece to create a spa-like privacy fence.

She then measured out and chopped wooden slates, painted them black, and built a pergola over the deck for a cozier, shaded feel.

With clean-lined furniture and a decorative plant, the patio was instantly transformed into the perfect chilling space.

“You are brilliant,” one commenter applauded.
